Baron Clovis and Baroness Zoe
Welcome to the Great Barony of Wyvernwoode, the Cradle of Trimarian Civilization.
Wow, what a busy season we have ahead of us. We have weekly fighter practices, monthly socials, meetings, and Arts & Sciences classes. We look forward to seeing the continued success of the Barony and the prosperity of those within its boundaries.
Greetings! Whether you're new to the SCA, a visitor from a foreign land, or someone returning after a break, we welcome you to Wyvernwoode!
The SCA is said to represent The Dream: the best of the middle ages (and beyond) but with some modern conveniences at hand, like this webpage, extensive libraries for research, and the joys of modern plumbing. We welcome you all to join our quest to experience The Dream among friends in the Barony of Wyvernwoode!
The Barony of Wyvernwoode is a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) located in Hillsborough and East Pasco counties in Florida. Wyvernwoode is part of the Kingdom of Trimaris, which includes most of Florida. Wyvernwoode was founded in 1972 as the Society's first group in Florida, and we're proud to be the Cradle of Trimarian Civilization.
The Society for Creative Anachronism is an international organization dedicated to pursuing research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century skills, arts, combat and culture.
The SCA community includes over 30,000 members in 20 kingdoms around the globe. Our participants learn about the arts, skills, and culture of the Middle Ages and Renaissance in an atmosphere of fun, through tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, classes, hands-on workshops, and more.
Unlike a Renaissance Fair, SCA activities aren’t just something you come to watch, they’re something you actively do. You’ll learn about the clothing of the period by tailoring and wearing outfits. Learn about combat by putting on armor and competing against opponents. Learn about brewing by making (and sampling) your own meads and ales. And there are many more subjects to learn about, including armoring, archery, cooking, heraldry, metalwork, music, dance, calligraphy, woodworking, and fiber arts. Our members enjoy exploring history and sharing the knowledge and skills they've gained with others in our community.
The SCA Newcomers's Portal is a great place to discover some of the many types of activities you can find in the SCA. And remember... if it was done in the Middle Ages or Renaissance, the odds are you’ll find someone in the SCA interested in recreating it!
If you are new to the SCA and want to know more about us, Wyvernwoode's Chatelaine is here to help!
In the SCA, a chatelaine is a hospitality officer, someone who has volunteered to help introduce new participants into the SCA. They welcome new people, teach them about our traditions, customs and rules, and help them get started. Not only can the Chatelaine help new folks get outfitted for their first event, they also are happy to introduce people to experienced members who share their specific interests.
Reach out to our current Chatelaine with any questions you have about the SCA or getting started in Wyvernwoode:
Lord Konrad Einholt
The Barony hosts several activities each month, including meetings, classes, workshops, martial art practices and social nights. Most are suitable for even the newest participant and modern clothing is welcome. We also host 2 (or more) larger day- or weekend-long events each year in historical clothing. The Barony also provides demonstrations for other community groups. Please check out calendar page for meeting and event details. And always feel welcome to ask the Chatelaine (or our friends on social media) if you want more information about activity on our schedule!
And despite being a "medieval club," we have a pretty robust presence on social media. Join us there to meet our members and learn more about what we have planned in coming months.
