BARF DEMO CANCELLED

Post date: Jan 31, 2015 1:28:05 AM

Unto the good populace of the Barony of Wyvernwoode, the Barony of Marcaster and the Kingdom of Trimaris at large, greetings.

To open, we would like to thank all of those who have volunteered their time and their support to assist with the demonstration at the Bay Area Renaissance Festival in recent years.

As you know, the Bay Area Renaissance Festival is a large undertaking for both the SCA demo team and for the Festival staff who put on the event. During initial land setup this week, Festival staff was forced to reallocate some of the land near our demo area and relocate some of the neighboring acts and a large children's ride into the middle of the area we had last year. Due to these changes, our demo area needed to be downsized and reoriented.

The logistics of the new and smaller site was challenging, and would have required moving every part of the demo. The fighting field, all tents, all walls and the cooking area would have to be relocated, and the blacksmith forge would not be possible without blocking traffic into the spaces that could accommodate demo tents or fighting. In addition, the Green Room/backstage area would have been separated from the demo area and tents making it difficult to secure, in addition the tents would need to be in the direct path of a wash that had previously affected only the fighting field and forge/cooking areas, thereby increasing the possibility of water damage to to displays during times of rain.

The seven week Bay Area Renaissance Festival demo requires an already enormous amount of planning and staffing, and has always had the additional challenge of occurring during Gulf Wars. In light of the large hurdle also of accommodating these major changes to the demo site at this late date, the autocrat team for the demo, in consultation with the Seneschal of Wyvernwoode and Their Excellencies Wyvernwoode have decided to cancel our demonstration at this year's Bay Area Renaissance Festival.

The Barony of Wyvernwoode will be focusing our efforts on demos at Tampa's Metrocon and other upcoming opportunities.

We thank you again for your willingness to participate and help at this demo, and we hope that you will consider assisting us at other upcoming demonstrations for the SCA.

In thanks,

Baroness Maol Mide ingen Medra OL, OP

Baroness Aibinn ingen Artain OL
